The Mac Mini will work with any monitor or HDTV that has a single-link DVI, HDMI or VGA port.

The Mac Mini has a DVI-I port on the back. You can hook it up to any DVI monitor up to 1920×1440 resolution using a standard single-link DVI monitor cable, or to any HDTV’s HDMI port using a DVI-to-HDMI cable. And the Mac Mini comes with a DVI-I-to-VGA adapter so you can use any VGA monitor with it as well.

You should preferentially use DVI or HDMI though, because that’s a digital signal. VGA is analog.

If your HP monitor has any of those three ports (DVI, HDMI or VGA), it will work with the Mac Mini and you don’t need to buy a new monitor.
